To everyone who voted for me, who helped us with donations and other campaign help, who wrote letters to the editor, THANK YOU! Although we lost the race, it was a great experience and I have no regrets. I learned so much from the race for Georgetown County Council. Best of all, I learned that I have many wonderful friends who share my concerns about maintaining and improving the quality of life in Georgetown County.
To anyone who saw the list of “GOP Delegates” in the April 17, 2007 Sun News, please be assured that whoever the “Jimmy Chandler” is who was listed as a delegate, it was NOT ME! I am not and have never been a member of the Republican Party and I am not a GOP delegate.
We have donated the left-over campaign funds to seven 501c3 non-profit organizations that work to improve quality of life in the Pawleys-Litchfield area: Baskerville Outreach, Miss Ruby’s Kids, Pawleys Island Civic Club Childcare Center, Smith Medical Clinic, Teach My People, South Carolina Environmental Law Project, and Winyah Rivers Foundation. We regret losing the race without spending all of the donations on the race, but we were surprised by the amount of donations that came in during October, and just hadn’t planned to spend so much. We believe that the organizations that received this money enjoy broad community support and that the donations will be used wisely.
One of the organizations receiving some of the left-over funds, the South Carolina Environmental Law Project, is the group I’ve worked with for 20 years. All of us at the Project are working hard to protect natural resources in Georgetown County and throughout the State of South Carolina. With the help of the Bunnelle Foundation and others, we are working on several special projects in Georgetown County. So despite the outcome of the election, I plan to be fully involved in the effort to protect natural resources and the quality of life in this area for the rest of my life. You can learn more about the Project at www.scelp.org.
We’re still not sure what we’ll do with this website, but we hope we’ll find a way that it can be useful to the community.
Again, thanks to everyone for all of your hard work and support during the campaign. I look forward to working with you in our continuing effort to protect natural resources in the Pawleys-Litchfield area, and to build a better community
